CALMing Mornings

Recently I’ve been taking a step back from social media & my blog to focus on my health. Last month I was feeling really overwhelmed with life, work, family, and that took a toll on my health. I was not eating right, not getting enough sleep, and one thing I didn’t expect to happen was getting sick and starting to experience bad stomach pains occaionally. These pains started off minor and worsen after the following week. For the next few weeks, I was in and out of the doctor’s office feeling unbearable pain (mostly late at night) and my doctor prescribed me some medication to help me ease the pain. To me, I didn’t think my condition was that bad but my doctor suggested I should see a specialist since I didn’tany improvement after finishing the medication he prescribed me.

After doing my research I decided to call around and begin making my appointment with a specialist just to get a second opinion. I finally got an appointment to see one (not too far from my house) a few days later and I was feeling pretty anxious. I went through a physical check-up, blood work, and a few tests with my new doctor and waited patiently to hear my results within a few days. A few days passed and for some odd reason, I began to feel a lot better. The pain was slowly going away and the one thing I craved the most was a good night sleep. I think it’s been a solid 2 weeks where I’ve gotten around 2 hours of sleep each night. I went back to the doctor for a follow-up and check back with him on my results. My doctor notified me that it wasn’t serious and that I needed to change my diet and lifestyle. The first thing I need to do was cut out certain foods from my diet (spicy food, sour food, sugar, coffee, and fried food). The next thing was to sleep more (I needed to get at least 8 hours of rest), another thing he mention was to not eat late at night (I need at least 3-5 hours to digest my food before bed time), and lastly (the most important thing) was to be less stressed and not overwhelm my body! My doctor simply explained to me why stress was probably one of the main causes for my stomach ulcer.

As I took all of his advice into consideration I started to change my ways slowly and the first step was to live a healthier and better life. My boyfriend suggested I pick up meditating (to relieve a little stress) and this has been helping me a lot. Another thing I’ve been doing/loving is drinking my Natural Calm anti-stress drink. I recently discovered this at my local sprouts and decided to give it a try. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Natural Calm products then I’ve listed the benefits of Natural Calm and how the product works below for you guys to read.

Natural Calm is a drink that promotes healthy magnesium levels and balances calcium intake helping you to feel less stressed and more relaxed. One thing I’ve learned is good health is all about balance! Our bodies were designed to obtain the nutrients we need from the food we eat, including plenty of magnesium. Most of us (an estimated 80 percent) don’t get enough magnesium in our diets, while we often take in an excess of calcium, mainly from dairy products and supplements. Both high-calcium diets and stress-filled lives deplete the magnesium in our bodies even further. That’s where Natural Calm comes in.

When we are under stress, our cells—which in their resting state contain magnesium go through a change. Calcium, normally outside the cells, enters the cells to create an action state. Nerve cells become excited and muscles tense. When the stress has passed, magnesium then pushes the calcium back out of the cells and everything relaxes. However, when there’s not enough magnesium, calcium remains in the cells, prolonging stress and creating magnesium-deficiency symptoms. You experience this as feeling stressed. Cellular magnesium deficiency can also express itself as fatigue and low energy; inability to sleep; muscle tension, spasms and cramps; anxiousness and nervousness; headaches; constipation and abnormal heart rhythms. Natural Calm, sourced from the ocean’s rich mineral content, delivers magnesium in a highly absorbable and quick-acting form. Its effectiveness—The CALM Experience—has made Natural Calm the leading magnesium supplement in the natural market.

On the days where I’m feeling stressed with everything going on in my life, I simply enjoy a quiet breakfast alone and swap out my coffee for a cup of Natural Calm. All I do is put 1 scoop of the anti-stress mix into the hot water and squeeze a wedge of lemon for flavor (this is optional). I’ve also included a fun smoothie recipe from Calmful Living below.
